Objective
A shape is shown on a coordinate plane next to an outline of where it must end up.
Choose the transformation that lands the shape exactly on the outline, and watch it happen.
Translations, reflections, and rotations produce an image that is congruent (same size and shape)
to the pre-image. A dilation produces an image that is similar (same shape, different size).
Later levels chain two or three transformations together, in order.
How to play
- Pick one of the choices beside the board. The transformation is animated so you can see exactly what it does.
- If the shape lands exactly on the outline, you clear the level. A miss shows you what your choice actually did, the shape resets, and you try again.
- Scoring: 1,000 points for clearing the level, plus a time bonus of up to 500 points that shrinks as the clock runs. Each miss costs 150 points. A clean, fast clear earns three stars.
The four transformations
TranslationA transformation that moves every point of a figure the same distance in the same direction. Written as a rule, (x, y) → (x + a, y + b), or as a vector 〈a, b〉.
ReflectionA transformation that flips a figure over a line, called the line of reflection. Each point and its image are the same distance from the line of reflection, on opposite sides of it.
RotationA transformation that turns a figure about a fixed point, called the center of rotation, through a specified angle and direction.
DilationA transformation that enlarges or reduces a figure from a fixed point, called the center of dilation, by a scale factor. Distances from the center are multiplied by the scale factor.
The game has 50 levels in five zones: single transformations, harder singles,
compositions chosen one step at a time, compositions built as a full sequence in advance, and
Honors levels with rotations and dilations about points other than the origin.
Levels unlock in order as you clear them.
